Susan Sharpless Smith has been awarded the ACRL IS Innovation Award, for her “embedded librarian” project at Wake Forest University. What’s cool about that, you may ask?
For an undergraduate sociology class in which students took a two-week bus trip through the American South, Smith got on the bus and rode along, supporting the class’s technology needs and collaborating with faculty to build information literacy into the research assignments. To which I say: that’s an extremely cool way to serve your students and faculty!
Smith is also, as you may know, the author of the excellent book Web-Based Instruction: A Guide for Libraries, a much-thumbed copy of which lives on my bookshelf right above my desk. If you do online instruction in libraries, you should definitely check it out.
